• Brazilian orchestra established in 1990 by the government of the city of São Paulo as an experimental and educational ensemble for the Theatro Municipal de São Paulo, where it plays a regular season every year. It is one of two orchestras (the first being the Orquestra Sinfônica Municipal De São Paulo) and six performing arts companies officially affiliated with the Theatro by municipal law.
  
  The OER's mandate includes serving as a teaching platform for orchestral musicians, presenting experimental, contemporary and pops repertoire that may not be of interest to traditional orchestras, and outreach activities for audiences unfamiliar with classical music. It also serves as a broadcast orchestra for events sponsored by the municipal government and as a pit orchestra for the Theatro Municipal opera season and the Balé da Cidade de São Paulo.
  
  From its inception to 2014, the OER was led by Jamil Maluf. From 2014–2016, Maluf was replaced by conductor Carlos Eduardo Moreno. Maluf returned to his original post for the 2017 season and has remained as music director since.
